The member company Blue Water Shipping, a global logistics provider, has learned that the green transition is not about giant leaps or miracle solutions – but about patient, targeted progress.

An internal fund turns ambition into action

At Blue Water, the focus is on the process. The company continuously invests in internal projects that aim to reduce CO₂ emissions – one step at a time. A dedicated internal CO₂ Reduction Fund helps turn ambition into tangible action:

"Our CO₂ reduction initiative is designed to support reduction projects across all of Blue Water’s global offices to help us meet our 2030 reduction targets. All employees are encouraged to submit project proposals that align with our decarbonisation goals. Every kilogram of CO₂ counts,” says Per Jakobsen, Business Development Manager at Blue Water.

Small Steps – Big Impact

According to Per, electrification takes up much of the public debate – and rightly so, as electricity is one of the most energy-efficient solutions. However, in practice, infrastructure is still lagging behind, especially for long-distance transport. That’s why Blue Water is also working with alternative fuels and transitional solutions.

HVO as a Step Along the Way

One example is the use of HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) - a fuel that can be used in existing trucks and tanks. It is not the ultimate solution, but it is a way to move forward while technologies like electric and hydrogen become more accessible and scalable.

At the same time, Blue Water trains its customers to make more climate-friendly choices in logistics. It is not about pointing fingers, but about making the possibilities visible and concrete.

On the Way Toward Science Based Targets

Blue Water has committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and is well on its way to meeting its goals for both direct and indirect emissions (scope 1 and 2). But that does not mean the work stops here. On the contrary, it fuels even greater ambition for new projects:

“The first three projects have now been approved and are on their way to being implemented. That gives us even more motivation to reach further across the organization,” says Per Jakobsen, Business Development Manager at Blue Water.
